Dance Classes for Ages 8-18

Our School Age program for ages 8–18 offers a variety of dance styles to fit every dancer’s interests and skill level. Whether they love the high-energy moves of hip hop or the grace of ballet, our classes provide a supportive, engaging space where students can build confidence, improve their technique, and express themselves. Whether they’re brand new to dance or looking to keep growing, our School Age classes offer the perfect mix of fun, friendship, and a passion for movement!

Class Options

Explore our class options below to find your dancer’s best fit. Each style includes a quick overview and clear level descriptions, so you’ll know exactly what to expect. Tip: choose a level using your dancer’s age on the first day of the session and current experience.

Acro

Acro classes blends dance and acrobatics to build strength, flexibility, balance, and control. Dancers will learn tricks, tumbling skills, and partner work through safe, progressive training. Acro enhances overall athleticism and adds dynamic movement to a dancer’s performance. Perfect for dancers looking to challenge themselves and level up their skills!

acro I (ages 8+)

An introduction to foundational acro skills, focusing on strength, flexibility, and body awareness. Dancers will work on basics like forward rolls, bridges, and beginning balances.

acro V

Dancers will work on aerial preparation, handsprings, and more advanced balancing and partnering work. Strong technique and control are emphasized.

acro II/III

Dancers continue building strength and control while learning new skills such as handstands, cartwheels, bridge kick-overs, and beginning limbering techniques.

acro VI

At this level, dancers are training and perfecting aerials, front and back handsprings, and advanced variations with fluidity and confidence.

acro IV

This level focuses on refining technique and advancing tumbling skills such as front and back walkovers, one-arm tricks, and deeper flexibility work.

acro VII

Our most advanced acro dancers focus on mastering complex skills, advanced partner/group work, and performance-ready combinations that integrate acro seamlessly with choreography.

Ballet

Ballet is the cornerstone of many dance styles, providing dancers with the grace, poise, and technique essential for success across all forms of movement. Ballet builds a strong foundation by enhancing posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline, and confidence, ensuring longevity and proficiency in a dancer’s journey.

ballet I (ages 8+)

Perfect for beginner dancers ages 8+ ready to explore the fundamentals of ballet. Students will learn the five positions, practice plié variations and tendus, and work on skills appropriate for their level. Classes include both barre and center floor work, with a focus on mastering the level I curriculum before advancing to level II.

ballet II

Expanding on the skills developed in level I, this class focuses on refining technique, precision, and ability. Students will progress to more challenging skills while continuing to practice both barre and center floor work. Proficiency in level I and an instructor’s recommendation are required to join this class.

ballet III

Designed for advanced ballet dancers, this class offers a deeper challenge, emphasizing complex combinations and advanced technique. Dancers will refine their finesse and develop a classic style. Mastery of all level I and II skills and instructor approval are required for enrollment.

Contemporary / Lyrical

contemporary (ages 12+)

Contemporary blends elements of ballet and modern dance with an emphasis on emotional expression and musicality. Dancers explore techniques like contractions and release, off-center balances, and suspension while developing their interpretive skills. Some prior dance experience, particularly in ballet or technical styles, is recommended.

lyrical (ages 12+)

This class blends ballet and jazz to tell a story through movement. Dancers learn to express emotion and interpret a song's lyrics through choreography, conveying the music's meaning with every step.

Hip Hop

Hip hop is an energetic style that blends a variety of urban, street, and pop dance techniques. Movements are designed to flow with the beat and rhythm of hip hop music, creating a dynamic experience that builds flexibility, balance, and coordination.

hip hop I (ages 8+)

Perfect for beginner and intermediate dancers, this upbeat class introduces foundational hip hop moves and techniques in a fun and engaging atmosphere.

hip hop II

For dancers ready to take their skills to the next level, this class features more intricate choreography, faster-paced routines, and challenging music. Placement is by instructor recommendation.

hip hop III

Designed for advanced dancers, this high-energy class focuses on complex routines and styles, offering a fast-paced environment to push boundaries. Placement is by instructor recommendation.

Jazz

Jazz Dance is all about style and expression. Classes focus on musicality, body alignment, conditioning, flexibility, rhythm, and technique, while incorporating creative choreography to keep learning exciting and fun.

jazz I (ages 8+)

This beginner class introduces dancers to foundational jazz techniques, including jazz walks, chaine turns, single pirouettes, jetes, and kicks. Students will build confidence, develop their style, and work on connecting steps and skills through choreography set to upbeat music.

Musical Theatre Jazz

Musical theatre classes bring the excitement of Broadway to the dance studio, combining elements of ballet, jazz, and modern styles. Dancers will learn the iconic Broadway jazz style popularized by legends like Bob Fosse and Jerome Robbins, and inspired by classic musicals such as Annie, Oklahoma!, and Grease.

musical theatre jazz (ages 8-11)

This class introduces the basics of Broadway jazz, blending ballet, jazz, and modern techniques. Dancers will gain an appreciation for musical theatre history while learning the foundations of this expressive style.

musical theatre jazz I (ages 12+)

Perfect for older beginners, this class builds on basic jazz techniques while focusing on various musical theatre styles, helping dancers bring stories and characters to life through movement.

musical theatre jazz II

Designed for dancers with prior experience, this class refines technique and explores more advanced choreography with peers. Placement is by instructor recommendation.

Pom Dance / Center Court

Experience the high-energy thrill of a performance team with our pom dance and center court classes. Dancers will learn sharp, synchronized movements and show-stopping choreography that combines pom, jazz, and hip hop to captivate any audience.

pom dance (ages 8-11)

This class introduces the fundamentals of pom technique, including strong arm motions, sharp and precise movements, jumps, kicks, and turns, all while incorporating the use of pom-poms. Great for building stamina and performance skills.

center court (ages 12+)

Perfect for older beginners, this class takes the skills learned in center court ages 8-11 and expands on the experience to grow in skill and performance.

pom dance (ages 12+)

Perfect for older beginners, this class takes the skills learned in pom dance ages 8-11 and expands on the experience to grow in skill and performance.

center court (ages 8-11)

This class is a high-energy class inspired by the thrilling performances of dance teams, combining pom, jazz, and hip hop dance styles. This class focuses on entertainment, technical precision, and show-stopping choreography. Dancers will learn what it takes to captivate an audience and bring the energy of a halftime performance to life!

Tap

Tap classes introduce students to the art of rhythm and musicality through dynamic footwork and technical precision. Alongside building foundational and advanced tap skills, dancers gain an appreciation for tap history and its influential figures, offering a well-rounded understanding of the style.

tap I (ages 8+)

Ideal for beginners, this class focuses on building foundational tap skills such as shuffles, paradiddles, flaps, pickups, and cramp-rolls. Students will also work on developing musical awareness and an appreciation for historical tap figures.

tap IV

Designed for advanced tap dancers who have masted the first three levels of tap, this class expands on techniques and trick steps. Dancers will explore various time signatures and begin creating their own choreography. Placement is by instructor evaluation.

tap II

For dancers who have mastered level I skills, this class emphasizes speed, technique, trick steps, and understanding syncopation and swing rhythms. Improvisation and tap history are integral parts of the curriculum. Placement is by instructor recommendation.

tap V

The highest level of tap offered, this class is for advanced students placed by instructor recommendation. Dancers will master complex techniques and further their creative and technical expertise.

tap III

A fast-paced class for dancers with prior tap experience who have mastered level I and II skills. Students will refine advanced technical skills, learn combinations quickly, and deepen their understanding of tap history and musicality. Placement is by instructor recommendation.

Technique

Technique classes focus on developing the technical skills essential for dance, combining precision with strength, flexibility, and coordination.

technique I (ages 8+)

Ideal for beginner dancers or those refining foundational skills, this class breaks down essentials like splits, single pirouettes, chaine and pique turns, jetes, and extensions. It also incorporates stretching, conditioning, and strengthening exercises to build the muscle strength and coordination needed for dance. 

technique II

Designed for intermediate dancers, this class focuses on perfecting foundational skills and introducing more advanced techniques. Students will work on calypsos, center leaps, double pirouettes, turns in second, and skill progressions across the floor. Mastery of Level I skills is required to progress to this level.

At Studio b, our Recreational Child and Teen Ballet class for ages 7 – 17 focuses on developing a strong foundation in ballet technique. In our Recreational Child and Teen Jazz class at Studio b, dancers ages 7 – 17 dive into the basics of jazz dance in a lively and supportive setting. This class encourages creativity and self-expression, helping students connect with the rhythm and excitement of the music. Through structured lessons, young dancers learn to focus their energy on mastering jazz techniques and understanding dance terminology. The flexibility, coordination, and concentration skills they gain will enhance not only their dancing but also their success in other areas of their lives.

Acro Skills

At Studio b, our Recreational Acro classes for ages 7–17 combine the art of dance with foundational acrobatic techniques, creating an exciting and dynamic experience. Students build essential skills such as balance, flexibility, strength, and coordination through engaging lessons tailored to their level. Tumbling exercises and controlled movements encourage dancers to push their boundaries in a safe and supportive environment.
