Don't give anybody else the power to tell you what you can and cannot do - YOU have the power. Pursue your passions with love, confidence and the knowledge that you know what is best for you. We all have the power to make a difference, no matter how small, by using the strength within us, and not letting obstacles stand in our way.
Why do you teach dance & fitness?
It's so rewarding to see people learning about themselves. Whether it's hitting a move that they were struggling with, or feeling a muscle they haven't felt before, it just gives me such a sense of joy to be a part of that.
When did you begin in dance & fitness?
I started my first dance class when I was 4. I danced for most of my life, but wasn't very interested in fitness classes. Then I came to Studio b and experienced the exciting and supportive environment, and I was sold. While I love the energy of the classes, I was missing some of the form and structure of dance. I created a barre-based fitness routine because it helped me find that middle ground; I can take the time to focus on my body, get the moves and posture right, but still get a good workout. Plus, the older I get, the more I have realized that teaching is a passion of mine. I love sharing what I know and seeing people grow and benefit from it. This is true in all aspects of my life and not just fitness instruction.
What keeps you motivated?
I'm motivated by my love of dance, but beyond that, I know that my body and mind are better when I exercise. When I don't keep active, everything goes haywire- from joints and muscles, to concentration, appetite and energy levels.
What is your professional background?
I lead a company that creates instruments used in scientific research. My super cool job let's me work with scientists around the world. I've been all over the US and Europe and to China, Korea, Thailand, Australia and the Middle East to teach people how to use the tools we make. I also have my own marketing consulting business to help scientific companies with their sales and marketing activities.
Why do you teach at Studio b?
I never cease to be amazed with Studio b. Everybody is so warm, so welcoming, and so thoughtful. There is always a project underway to give back to the community. The energy is palpable. I feel so fortunate to have found the studio and even more grateful to be welcomed as part of the Studio b community.
I am insanely good at karaoke. You know, not to brag or anything, but...I'm really good. Like win-contests-good and have-strangers-wait-around-to-talk-to-me-afterwards-good. To be clear, I am not actually a great singer, just a great performer. One day, part of my vast empire will include a school where I teach other people to be awesome at karaoke, too.
