phrase that inspires you: b • you

At an early age, I learned the concept of being my personal best. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a work in progress but the concept is close to my heart. Women especially get caught up in comparing themselves to other women. Women who are smaller, prettier, smarter, funnier, have more friends, are a better mom ….the list goes on. I don’t like comparing myself to others. I want to live my life focusing on being the best ‘me’ I can b and growing & learning every day. That’s what I hope for my children as well. I’m humbled to b part of Studio b where I hope to help you work toward your personal best, feel good about yourself and b the best ‘you’ you can b.

what inspired you to start leading fitness classes?

I did not have a goal of becoming a fitness instructor. I have had a wonderful journey getting here though. Six months after I took my first Zumba class, I was so hooked, I decided to attend an Instructor Training Class. My intent was to learn more about Zumba and increase results from my workout. Shortly after, I was presented with the opportunity to help a friend and fill in for her as an Instructor. I was willing to give it a shot but was very nervous. It was a huge responsibility and I didn’t want to let my friend or the participants down. It took me a while to find my groove but I discovered a new found love for instructing. Now I can’t imagine my life without it. Zumba Fitness offers so many opportunities to grow and develop as an instructor and I take advantage of as many as I can. I enjoy helping participants along their journey to realize their personal goals and have fun.

what keeps you motivated?

It’s such an honor and privilege to instruct at Studio b. However, I really don’t see myself as ‘leading’ the classes. I truly feel like we are all working together. The support within the class for each other is simply amazing. We are all there to grow, learn, and develop together. I enjoy challenging myself and our regular participants with new routines. What inspires me the most though is when new people come to class and they discover an instant love for Zumba.

what do you do when you're not teaching fitness classes?

I LOVE watching my kids discover and develop their talents: playing the drums, bowling, and dance. I am an AVID watcher of Dancing With the Stars, all seasons. I never danced as a child but always wanted to. And yes, I’m sure that is what has fueled my love for Zumba. If there is ever a reality show called “Dancing with a Normal-Middle-Aged-Woman”, I will be first in line! I would want Tony Dovolani as my partner – yes, I’ve really thought about it :).

why do you teach at studio b?

Studio b is a place where I feel I can be me. The environment is focused on supporting, encouraging and nurturing adults and children to be the best they can be. I have developed some strong and cherished friendships with ladies at Studio b.

any other fun facts you would like to share?

I have a healthy addiction to Zumba clothes. The clothes are fun and loud. Ironically, I’m actually an introvert so the loud clothes help me come out of my shell. I love putting together the Zumba class playlists. It fulfills another childhood dream of mine, being a DJ.
